Port of Los Angeles seeks deputy chief of police

The Port of Los Angeles is looking to hire a deputy chief of police for Field Operations and its Emergency Management group.

The salary range for the position is $135,072 to $167,812 per year.

If hired, the deputy chief of police will oversee Field Operations, the command and control center that controls technical planning, coordination of operations and patrol methods, crime reduction programs and HazMat. The command center also oversees mutual aid and training cooperation with the Harbor Department's Operations Center and the Port Police Operations Center.

Emergency Management directs and coordinates the emergency preparedness activities at the Port of Los Angeles. The deputy chief of police will coordinate emergency planning, training exercises and other programs regarding natural disasters or other emergency incidents.

The deputy chief of police may also serve as the acting chief of police as required.

Qualifications for the position include a previous rank of captain or above at another law enforcement agency, as well as experience with emergency management. A bachelor's degree from a four-year university is required for the deputy chief of police position, although a master's degree is preferred.
