Meeting held to discuss EU CBRN CoE initiative
The event took place on June 11-13 in Ispra, Italy, and represented a step forward in the implementation of the CoE initiative. The attendees held roundtable meetings for each of the regions involved in the initiative to assess progress made in strengthening coordination and cooperation.
On the final day of the event, participants joined working groups to provide feedback and brainstorm on potential ways forward for the sustainability and scope extension of the initiative's governance.
"The regional and participatory approach of the EU CoE to define and then implement projects truly constitutes a model for our region," Mohammad Salami, the head of the CoE African Atlantic Façade secretariat in Rabat, Morocco, said.
The EU CBRN CoE initiative seeks to facilitate coordination and strengthen CBRN policies and capabilities by developing a network of regional initiatives to support the development of national CBRN policies.
The U.N. Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) said the meeting in Ispra confirmed the importance of and willingness to develop an integrated CBRN approach incorporating national, regional and international CBRN components in a common strategy.
The EU CoE initiative is funded by the European Commission and implemented in cooperation with the U.N. Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).
