National Preparedness and Response Science Board seeks seven new members

The Office of the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services is now accepting application submissions for qualified individuals seeking to be considered for membership on the National Preparedness and Response Science Board (NPRSB).

The NRPSB, formerly known as the National Biodefense Science Board, has seven voting members with membership expiration dates of Dec. 31. Nominees for the position will be accepted in several categories, including industry, academic, practicing healthcare, pediatrics and organizations representing other appropriate stakeholders.

The deadline for application submissions is June 15.

The NPRSB, authorized under Section 319M of the Public Health Services Act as added by Section 402 of the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act of 2006 and amended by Section 404 of the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act and Section 222 of the PHS Act, provides expert advice and guidance to the secretary on scientific, technical and other matters of special interest to the Department of Health and Human Services regarding current and future chemical, biological, nuclear and radiological agents that are naturally occurring, accidental or deliberate.

Additionally, the board provides advice and guidance to the secretary and/or the assistant secretary for preparedness and response on other matters related to public health emergency preparedness and response.
