Ingram recently served as the CEO of Zodiac Aerospace - Electrical Systems. He also held senior roles in multiple automotive and aviation companies, including TRW and Goodrich Corporation.
"Richard is an engineer with a strong commercial focus and a proven track record in customer-facing roles," Philip Bowman, the chief executive at Smiths Group, said. "He has successfully led international teams and multi-site operations involving advanced technologies and complex program management. His skills and experience are ideally suited to improve performance and contract execution at Smiths Detection."
Ingram will replace Brian Jones, who will now serve as the company's group commercial director. Jones was the interim president of Smiths Detection for the past six months. Jones previously served as the chief information officer of Smiths Group for five years until October.
His new position will focus on company growth across all five of Smiths Group's businesses.
"I would like to thank Brian who in such a short time has built an improved foundation for taking (Smiths) Detection forward," Bowman said. "I am delighted he has accepted this important new role. With our increased focus on growing revenue, now is the time to strengthen and enhance coordination across the group's growth initiatives."
