TCS receives DHS contract for improving geo-targeting accuracy
The DHS Science and Technology Directorate picked TCS to perform the first phase of a research study entitled "Constructing Algorithms that Utilize RF Cell Site Propagation Footprints for Wireless Emergency Alerts." The study will focus on using area footprints associated with radio frequency coverage to improve geo-targeting accuracy and granularity to deliver WEA messages.
"Undertaking this study deepens TCS' involvement with DHS, and we welcome this opportunity to conduct research for S&T," Keith Bhatia, the vice president of mobility solutions for TCS Commercial Software Group, said. "We are dedicated to the success of the WEA program and to the continued improvement of geo-targeted and precise alerts through all available mediums. Public safety depends on this constant evolution, and TCS has committed teams that are working to advance mobile technologies and to innovate new solutions."
WEA is a voluntary national emergency alert system that was established in 2006. It is meant to deliver critical and emergency messages to the public. The research seeks to provide more focused alert area notifications and increased safety to the users of wireless devices.
In the past year alone, TCS' secure communication technology powered the delivery of more than four trillion text messages and more than 65 million annual wireless emergency calls.
