W.S. Darley & Co. distributes robots to first responders

W.S. Darley & Company, a product developer for first responders, announced on Monday that it is now distributing iRobot's line of tactical mobile robots to the emergency and fire service markets.

iRobot's tactical mobile robots perform multiple missions for public safety professionals, reducing risk, enhancing situational awareness and increasing operational success. The robots can be used for a wide range of operations, including hazmat, bomb disposal, building inspections and reconnaissance. Because the robots relay real-time video, audio and sensor data, the operator can stay at a safe standoff distance while investigating hazardous objects and environments.

"We are excited to work with iRobot to make these robots available to fire and emergency services personnel," Kevin Sofen, the business development manager at W.S. Darley & Company, said. "Our partnership brings two industry leaders together to address these important markets."

More than 5,000 tactical mobile robots have been delivered to customers throughout the world.

"For more than a decade, iRobot's defense and security robots have proven their value to customers worldwide," Tom Phelps, director of robotic products in North America for iRobot's defense & security business unit, said. "Robots are ideal tools for those in the public safety, fire and emergency services sectors. They can be used to address a wide range of challenges while increasing operational success and keeping people safe. We look forward to working with W.S. Darley & Co., expanding the presence of robots in these areas."

iRobot will showcase multiple robot models in the W.S. Darley & Company booth at the Fire Department Instructors Conference on April 7-12 in Indianapolis.
