ASTHO to hold leadership meeting in March
The Leadership in Government Meeting, which was formerly known as the Networking Meeting, brings together new state health officials and experienced colleagues to discuss their shared early experiences. The sessions are meant to make state health officials effective leaders in public health by focusing on practical and essential skills. Such skills include working with local public health, the media, legislators and governors.
The event includes ASTHO Hill Day 2014, which will occur on March 6. On Hill Day, the ASTHO organizes members to visit policymakers to educate them about the need to provide increased funding for various public health programs.
After the Leadership in Government Meeting on March 4, participants will be invited to a dinner later that evening. On March 5, ASTHO will host a Hill Day legislative briefing breakfast followed by another session of the Leadership in Government Meeting. The sessions lead up to Hill Day on March 6 when members of the ASTHO visit members of Congress.
The ASTHO is the national nonprofit organization representing public health agencies in the U.S. and the more than 100,000 public health professionals the agencies employ. The organization's main function is to track, evaluate and advise members on the impact and formation of public or private health policy.
