FLIR welcomes Thomas A. Surran as new COO

FLIR Systems, Inc., announced on Friday that William A. Sundermeir, the president of FLIR's Government Systems Division, resigned to pursue other business and personal opportunities and will be succeeded by Thomas A. Surran.

Surran most recently served FLIR as President of the company's Commercial Systems Division. He has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer and will assume responsibility for the company's international and government operations. Sundermeier will remain with FLIR until the end of February to help make the leadership transition smooth.

"I want to thank Bill for his tremendous contributions to FLIR," Executive Officer of FLIR Andy Teich said. "He has been an instrumental part of FLIR's growth and evolution over the past nineteen years, from his early days in product management through his leadership of our Government Systems business for the past eight years. We will miss his deep experience and perspective."

Surran joined FLIR initially in 2004 during an acquisition of Indigo Systems. He held numerous leadership positions with FLIR, including general manager of commercial vision systems, vice president and general manager of Raymarine, a subsidiary of FLIR, and president of FLIR's Commercial Systems Division.

"Tom is a veteran executive and leader with demonstrated experience in all aspects of operations," Teich said. "He has successfully led three FLIR operations over the past ten years, and I am confident in his ability to continue that success in this expanded role."
