Smiths Detection to supply cargo screening systems to Canadian Border Security

Smiths Detection announced on Tuesday that it was awarded a follow-on order for more than $8 million from the Canada Border Services Agency to supply mobile X-ray cargo screening systems this year.

CBSA will receive the HCVM Z60 NA, a high energy scanner that inspects trucks, vehicles and containers for weapons, explosives and narcotics. The system is able to scan through 12 inches of steel, and provides high-resolution images for fast and reliable inspection. The system is able to inspect up to 25 trucks per hour.

"Smiths Detection's HCVM series meets the growing demand for fast and dependable cargo screening to enhance security while supporting the free flow of trade," Smiths Detection Vice President of Sales Lance Roncalli said. "The technology is also backed by our globally recognized commitment to training and service which offers an exceptional overall value for customers like the CBSA."

Smiths Detection designs and manufactures equipment to detect and identify explosives, chemical agents, biohazards, weapons and narcotics, as well as nuclear and radiation threats. Smiths Detection partners with federal and state governments, as well as first responders, to build security and safeguard the military. The company has provided security systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.
