VP Biden expresses U.S. commitment to Iraq's security

United States Vice President Joe Biden spoke with the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Monday and affirmed that the U.S. supports Iraq in its fight for national peace and security.

Biden told Maliki that the U.S. stands by Iraq's side in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant. He also expressed his concern for all Iraqis currently suffering from the consequences of terrorism.

Biden commended Maliki for the recent alliance formed between the Iraqi Security Forces, local forces and tribal forces in the Anbar province to uphold security in the nation. Maliki said Iraq is also committed to working with Sunni leaders and communities in Iraq to continue to uphold security in the region.

Under the Strategic Framework Agreement, Biden and Maliki confirmed their nations' intent to work together to develop and strengthen their security alliance.
