uzumcu also discussed options for Norway's participation in eliminating Syria's chemical weapons.
"This challenging undertaking requires solid international cooperation and strong collective commitment in order to be conducted safely and as swiftly as possible," uzumcu said. "I am grateful to Norway for its strong support to the OPCW-UN Mission in Syria, through a voluntary contribution to the Trust Fund for Destruction and through an offer for maritime assistance."
uzumcu said an updated and detailed plan for the removal and destruction of chemical weapons from Syria will be presented next week.
uzumcu also met with Olemic Thommessen, the president of the Norwegian Parliament, and Anniken Huitfeld, the chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.
During the meetings, uzumcu talked about Norway's continued collaboration with the Chemical Weapons Convention. He said support for a stronger involvement of non-governmental organizations would show a "remarkable awareness of the significance of the Convention and of the necessity to broaden its scope and its reach."
"I am looking forward to the continued cooperation with the Norwegian authorities" uzumcu said.
