Emergent BioSolutions wins industrial maintenance award from NAME

Emergent BioSolutions, a Rockville, Maryland-based specialty pharmaceutical company, announced on Monday that it won an industrial maintenance award for excelling in processes that enable operational excellence.

Emergent's Lansing, Mich.-based facility received the 2013 North American Maintenance Excellence Award by the Foundation for Industrial Maintenance Excellence. The company received the reward based on its pursuit, dedication and demonstration of operational and maintenance excellence.

"Emergent is honored to be recognized as an industry leader in maintenance processes and strategies," Adam Havey, Emergent's executive vice president and biodefense division president, said. "At Emergent we are dedicated to innovation and we understand the important role process improvement plays in our overall company mission."

The NAME audit team conducted a four-day, on-site audit of the facility to evaluate the company on 14 different characteristics. The team found Emergent's key strengths were in people development, reliability engineering, qualification of equipment and maintenance and calibration systems, among others.

The NAME program aims to increase the awareness of maintenance as a competitive edge in cost, quality, safety, service and equipment performance, identify industry leaders and highlight best practices, share successful maintenance strategies and understand the importance of managing change and stages of development in the achievement of maintenance excellence.
