Smiths Detection and Optosecurity sign Memorandum of Understanding

Smiths Detection announced on Friday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Optosecurity for the development and distribution of advanced products for the use of threat detection.

The agreement invites both organizations to work together with the goal of developing Checkpoint Enterprise Software Solutions, threat detection solutions with enhanced capabilities at lower operational costs. The products are designed to create solutions for security screening checkpoints, such as airports or corporate lobbies.

This is the second agreement between the organizations. Smiths Detection and Optosecurity collaborated in 2012 for the creation of Optoscreener, a detection software installed on Smiths Detection checkpoint X-ray systems to detect liquid explosives.

"The MOU demonstrates the strong working relationship that our two companies have developed," Smiths Detection Vice President of Products Rod Wilson said. "The agreement will eventually leverage our global base of checkpoint products including X-rays, trace detectors, full body screening devices and bottle screeners for liquid explosives with Optosecurity's advanced technology solutions, software development and rapid implementation capabilities."

Smiths Detection is a leading organization in the development of technology solutions for government and military markets for the detection of CBRNE threats, narcotics, weapons and contraband.

Optosecurity is a Canada-based organization that designs and develops threat management technology to decrease security checkpoint operational costs.
