Ban spokesperson condemns terrorist attacks in Iraq
Ban's spokesperson made the statement at a press conference in New York. He said that the Secretary-General expressed strong condemnation for the attacks, a series of bombings that have taken place across Iraq this week during the sacred Muslim Holiday Eid-Al-Adha.
Ban gave his condolences to the families affected by the bombings and the Government of Iraq; he wished a speedy recovery to all those wounded. Ban asked that Iraqi leaders come together to bring unite and peace to the country, despite its recent history of separatist violence.
The United Nations and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq said the organizations will continue to support the Iraqi government and people towards cultivating a peaceful, unified and thriving nation.
Iraq was not the only nation affected by terrorist attacks during the Muslim holiday season. A terrorist bombing also took place in Afghanistan this week, killing Governor of the Logar Province in Afghanistan Arsala Jamal.
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan also released a statement this week condemning the attack and calling for adherence to international humanitarian law.
