General George A. Joulwan joins Emergent BioSolutions board of directors

Emergent BioSolutions, Inc., announced on July 18 that General George A. Joulwan was appointed to the company's board of directors.

Joulwan had a highly distinguished military career which included serving as Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Southern Command, Commanding General of V Corps and the commanding General of the 3rd Armored Division, United States Army Europe. His career spanned 36 years, from 1961 until he retired in 1997.

"General Joulwan has devoted his four-decade career to serving the country, protecting our freedoms, and architecting peace around the world. He is a true and distinguished public servant, who is highly-respected in the global military community," Fuad El-Hibri, executive chairman of the board of Emergent BioSolutions, said. "As we expand our portfolio with specialized products that address the needs of U.S. and worldwide governments, his expertise and stature will be invaluable in guiding Emergent's management team towards further growth."

Joulwan has also served in other leadership positions in the army and Pentagon, most notably serving as special assistant to the president after two combat tours in Vietnam. He has received numerous awards over the years, including two Silver Stars for acts of valor.

"For years my lifelong passion has been to defend and serve, whether it is through my professional career, support of philanthropy causes, or advancement of military education," Joulwan said.
