JPEO-CBD activates office for medical countermeasure systems
The Joint Project Manager Medical Countermeasure System is the consolidation of three former medical JPM offices within the JPEO-CBD. The JPM-MCS will be comprised of the former Joint Project Managers Chemical Biological Medical Systems, Medical Countermeasures Advanced Development and Manufacturing and Transformational Medical Technologies. The consolidation is meant to streamline the advanced development of medical countermeasures to counter chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.
The JPM-MCS will also work to improve life cycle management for multiple products, deliver sustainable services to the military and civilian sectors, reduce costs and reduce duplication.
"The leaders who worked so hard to make this consolidation happen are to be commended," Carmen Spencer, the joint program executive officer for JPEO-CBD, said. "We will provide the same robust medical portfolio-yet the delivery to the services will be much more efficient."
JPEO-CBD hosted an activation ceremony for JPM-MCS and presented a joint project manager charter to Col. Russell Coleman. Col. Coleman assumed leadership of JPM-MCS after most recently serving as the commander of the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity.
"It is an honor to take command and provide stability during this transition," Coleman said. "Under this new structure, we will maintain our current facilities while implementing new ways to improve medical portfolio coordination and create efficiencies not possible under the former structure."
