Hagel meets with Minister of Defense of Tunisia Rachid Sabbagh

Secretary of Defense Check Hagel attended a meeting on Wednesday with Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and Minister of Defense of Tunisia Rachid Sabbagh, according to a readout provided by Pentagon Press Secretary George Little.

The leaders met as part of the 27th annual U.S. and Tunisia Joint Military Commission between May 28 and 30 this year. The commission exhibits the U.S. commitment to its defense relationship with Tunisia.

"[Secretary Hagel] said he was pleased with the continued military-to-military cooperation between the countries and emphasized the need for future cooperation in light of shared interests and security challenges in the region," Little said.

Carter expressed his gratitude to Sabbagh for Tunisia's support of the U.S. embassy following the September 14 attack in Tunis. Carter also thanked Sabbagh for continued cooperation on a number of security issues.
