OPCW Director-General uzumcu meets with Azerbaijan government to discuss CWC

Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Director-General Ahmet uzumcu discussed Chemical Weapons Convention compliance during a series of meetings with Azerbaijan government officials in Baku on April 25 and 26.

uzumcu commended Azerbaijan officials on their compliance with the CWC, which calls for global destruction of chemical weapons. Officials assured uzumcu they would continue to comply.

uzumcu also updated officials regarding the main outcomes of the Third Review Conference, which concluded April 19 and brought together the member states of the Non-Proliferation Treaty to discuss the progress they have made to-date on the goals of the treaty before the Review Conference in 2015.

First Deputy Prime Minister HE Yagub Eyyubov, Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Elmar Mammadyarov and Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations HE Faik Tagizade met with uzumcu during his visit. uzumcu also met with Deputy Foriegn Minister and Rector HE Ambassador Hafiz Pasaye at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy.
