Raptor to supply Navy with SAFE-T products

Raptor Detection Technologies, LLC, a security product developer, has been contracted by the U.S. Navy to supply its line of SAFE-T products to Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal.

"Substance Activated Fast Evaluation Technology," or SAFE-T, products are based on the patented nanotechnology called molecularly imprinted polymers. MIPs are able to selectively sense microscopic amounts of explosives or other dangerous molecules such as chemical agents, toxins, biological agents, pesticides, poisons and explosives.

The ability of SAFE-T products to accurately identify a possible threat during a time-critical situation could aid the military's need for simple, highly effective products that can offer diverse detection capabilities.

Raptor's SAFE-T MIPs were initially developed at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. They produce a dramatic color change reaction when they detect target molecules, such as dangerous materials used in terrorist attacks. The color change can be detected within seconds of exposure.

“We are extremely proud to support NAVEOD’s critical mission and provide them with products and technology that will assist in the defense of our nation,” Jonathan P. Gluckman, Raptor’s general manager, said. “Detection of trace explosives is as simple as looking for a visible color change when the SAFE-T Wipe or Spray is used. Our goal is to help our men and women in uniform perform their jobs as efficiently and safely as possible.”

NAVEOD is tasked with rendering safe all types of ordnance, including chemical, nuclear, biological and improvised.
