Eighth Force Protection Equipment Demonstration set for May

The Eighth Force Protection Equipment Demonstration has recently been scheduled to be held at Northern Virginia’s Stafford Regional Airport on May 17 through May 19.

The focus of the demonstration will be on reducing vulnerabilities to asymmetrical threats such as chemical and biological weapons, car bombs, suicide bombs and improvised explosive devices. The commercial products demonstrated will be geared towards both a combat and non-combat environment.

The theme for the event is "Force Protection through Integrated Physical Security Solutions," and is supposed to reflect the current trend towards mutually supporting technology platforms and resources to stop a wider array of terrorist threats.

Several thousand federal, state and local leaders and physical security experts, as well as Department of Defense officials and officials from allied nations, are expected to attend in order to examine, firsthand, the force protection equipment and systems available for acquisition. Items from previous demonstrations have become industry standards.

There are ore than 575 exhibitors expected at the exposition, including 3,000 displays and demonstrations of off-the-shelf commercial products.

The Department of Defense’s Physical Security Equipment Action Group will direct the bi-annual event, along with the Department of Energy and the Technical Support Working Group as sponsors. Registration will begin online as early as December 15.
