Florida's DEM to hire deputy director

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (DEM) is looking to hire a deputy director; applications will be accepted until April 10.

This position involves management of administrative and budgetary tasks, including control over the division's financial issues and statuses. The person selected will also be expected to take on any responsibilities of the director in case of their absence.

The deputy director provides direct oversight of all offices and bureaus within the division.

Candidates are required to have a bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 10 years in progressive management roles. Preference is given to those who possess an advanced degree in a field related to the tasks of the division.

Candidates should have a strong knowledge of current theories, methodologies and literature relating to homeland security, public administration, emergency and disaster management and public policy. They should also possess knowledge of budgeting and financial processes and the division's goals, structure and mission.

Candidates should provide evidence of being able to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms. Optimal candidates will be able to react to an emergency or disaster situation with a calm demeanor and decisive action and have an excellent sense of judgment in their work.
