ChemImage to present explosive detection system

ChemImage Sensor System's senior scientist will present data Tuesday at Pittcon from development work on a Raman system that could potentially detect and identify explosives.

Nathaniel Gomer's presentation at the New Orleans convention will discuss work on the detection of improvised explosive devices. The system would be controlled robotically, using molecule vibrations within a chemical system to determine the molecular makeup of a solution or compound.

"It is a great opportunity for me to present the work we have completed to the spectroscopy community during Pittcon 2015 and have the opportunity for discussion and feedback on the project," Gomer said.

The company specializes in sensor manufacture and development that can be used to detect biological, chemical or explosive threats, and has developed several devices in this category that military and security personnel use.

Pittcon, which showcases technology and scientific advances, is organized by the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh.

Gomer's presentation will be in Room 255 of the Morial Convention Center.
