Bechtel-affiliated facilities recognized for safety excellence

Teams at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) affiliated with Bechtel National, Inc. were recognized for excellence in work safety on Wednesday.
The two teams were awarded the Voluntary Protection Program's (VPP) Star Status designation, one of the highest honors given by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
"Earning recertification as an OSHA VPP 'Star Site' is a tribute to the safety-first approach of every person on this site," said Doug Omichinski, project manager for the Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass joint venture. "Project and construction management's responsibility is to provide the tools, processes and resources that support a world-class safety program, but to succeed it must be embraced and executed by every member of the team."
According to a report from Streetinsider.com these facilities bring the number of Star Status sites associated with Bechtel to seven. The award signifies significant effort in providing a safe work environment and programs that aim to protect a facility's employees. The company specializes in nuclear power, environmental and restoration sectors and homeland security, and developing facilities for these industries.
"The VPP Star flag flying at the entrance of the laboratory is a proud daily reminder that safety is a core value of our workforce," said Paul Henry, acting LANL deputy director.
