MAM unveils lightweight CBRN-proof protective suit

Morgan Advanced Materials' (MAM) Composites and Defense Systems unit unveiled a new protective suit last week that shields the user from exposure to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) agents and is also lightweight.

The suit, ERGOTEC 4025, is specifically designed to provide a high level of mobility and also can be used for protection during ordnance-disposal activities. It includes a mask to protect the face, fitting under the suit's helmet, as well as gloves, boots and body suit.

The company said the user can remove the suit within 20 seconds, should an emergency require the suit's removal. It features patented quick-release mechanisms.

“The design of the ERGOTEC 4025 suit has focused on disposal strategies involving gathering forensic evidence, which requires high protection with flexibility to enable the user to perform such maneuvers as climbing or crawling,” MAM Composites and Defense Systems Development Director Martyn Cook said.

To increase range of motion, the suit's breast plate is split into three parts, giving users flexibility. The rear of the suit can withstand  blunt-force trauma and includes a cooling system for user comfort.

The suit officially will be released at the National Shooting Sports Foundation Shot Show this week at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas. The suit is available to law enforcement officials in the U.S. through Point Blank Enterprises.
