Brookhaven Lab seeks manager for laboratory protection manager

The Brookhaven National Lab, based in New York, said recently it is seeking to hire a manager of the Laboratory Protection Division.

This full-time position reports to the associate laboratory director for facilities and operations. Responsibilities of the position include directing the division, the planning and organization of safeguards, emergency protocols relating to response and preparedness, security, fire safety and the interactions with emergency medical personnel. This position is also required to develop policy that coincides with Department of Energy and laboratory policies that include procedures of handling nuclear material and classified information. This position is also responsible for the development of measurable safety performance goals and evaluations.

The manager of the division will also prepare operations budgets and provide applicable reasoning for the budgets that are developed, and will serve as a point of contact for the Security Management System within the larger laboratory management system.

This position regularly interacts with senior management and representatives from the Department of Energy.

A bachelor's degree and over 15 years of experience in the area of security, safeguards, emergency services or emergency management is required. Leadership experience in a large-scale complex or facility should be exemplified in previous experience. Leadership skills in team-building, diversity, motivation of personnel and innovation would be greatly considered.

Applicants must be able to obtain "Q" clearance from the Department of Energy to be considered for this position. Preferred qualifications and experience includes experience leading in an emergency response setting, familiarity with emergency and continuity plans and experience working in a federal environment.
