University of Texas - San Antionio offers emergency preparedness courses

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Office of Emergency Management will hold outreach and training sessions at UTSA campuses as part of National Preparedness month.

Two courses are being offered to promote emergency preparedness.

The first course, SD 457 UTSA Emergency Preparedness, is an interactive course developed by the UTSA Emergency Management team and Human Resources Training department. Students will use interactive scenarios, games and video focused on preparedness and response procedures. The scenarios include shelter-in-place, evacuations, rally points, threats/hazards and active shooter awareness.

Taught by warning coordination meteorologists from the National Weather Service (NWS) the second course, SA 491 Skywarn Stormspotter, will take place on Oct. 17. The class will cover weather basics, radar interpretation and how to report severe weather to the National Weather Service. This course helps UTSA remain an accredited NWS Storm-Ready University.
