PositiveID Corporation's Firefly Dx system was recently featured in Computerworld.

The Computerworld article discussed the benefits of the point-of-need, handheld system, which is designed to deliver molecular diagnostic results rapidly for detecting such biological threats as Ebola.

"The best way to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus throughout the world is to detect it as early and as quickly as possible, at the source. And we believe our Firefly system will give us that ability," company CEO William Caragol said.

PositiveID develops biological detection systems and rapid biological testing for America’s homeland defense industry in order to detect biological threats at high-value locations.

The Firefly Dx system can aid hospitals, physicians, military personnel and others to save lives, using real-time TagMan polymerase chain reaction chemistry to derive results in less than 20 minutes, compared to the typical two to four hours for a lab device.
